The purpose of this chapter is to promote the protection, enhancement, perpetuation, and use of improvements of special character or historical interest or value in the interest of the health, prosperity, safety, and welfare of the people of the Village of Maywood by:
(A) Ensuring the preservation of landmarks and historic areas that represent elements of the Village’s cultural, social, economic, political and architectural history and the heritage of the Village and residents of the Village;
(B) Promoting civic pride in the beauty and noble accomplishments of the past as represented in the Village’s landmarks and historic districts;
(C) Stabilizing and strengthening the economy of the Village by defining and enhancing landmarks and historic areas that are significant in the history of the Village or in other ways;
(D) Protecting and enhancing the attractiveness of the Village to buyers, visitors and shoppers and thereby supporting business, commerce, industry, and providing economic benefits to the Village;
(E) Aiding in the protection of landmarks and historic areas from future neglect, demolition, or indiscriminate and ill-advised development; and
(F) Fostering and encouraging preservation and restoration of landmarks and historic areas and thereby preventing future urban blight.
