In addition to powers and duties already conferred on the Commission by § 31.37 of the Maywood Village Code, the Commission shall have and exercise the following additional duties and powers:
(A) To act to eliminate unlawful real estate practices;
(B) To act to assure to persons living, working or desiring to live in the Village opportunity to purchase, lease or occupy real property in the Village without discrimination because of the actual or perceived status, practice or expression of that person’s race, color, religion, age, sex, disability, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, military discharge status, source of income, housing status or parental status; or the actual or perceived association with such a person;
(C) To adopt, promulgate, amend and rescind rules and regulations to effectuate the policies and provisions of this chapter;
(D) To receive, initiate, investigate and seek to adjust complaints alleging unlawful real estate practices under the provisions of this chapter and in accordance with rules and regulations adopted by the Commission and approved by the Village President and Board of Trustees;
(E) To request, or to recommend that the Village President and Board of Trustees instruct the Village Attorney to seek a temporary restraining order or injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction when the Commission has reasonable cause to believe that an unlawful real estate practice has occurred or will occur;
(F) To eliminate any unlawful real estate practice by conciliation, conference and/or persuasion;
(G) To hold public hearings on complaints alleging unlawful real estate practices under this chapter in the event that its efforts under division (F) above are ineffective, or where it deems that such efforts will be ineffective;
(H) To make findings of fact and submit recommendations to the Village President and Board of Trustees with respect to any violations or modifications of this chapter;
(I) To publish its findings of fact and order in accordance with the provisions of this chapter and its rules and regulations;
(J) To issue such publications and results of investigations and research as in its judgment will tend to promote good will and minimize or eliminate discrimination because of the actual or perceived status, practice or expression of a person’s race, color, religion, age, sex, disability, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, military discharge status, source of income, housing status or parental status; or the actual or perceived association with such a person;
(K) To render from time to time, but not less than once a year, a written report to the Village President and Board of Trustees of its activities and recommendations with respect to fair real estate practices; and
(L) To have the power of subpoena to compel the submission of documents and the presence of persons before the Commission. Such subpoena power may be exercised by the Commission, its panels, its Chairperson or a hearing officer appointed pursuant to this chapter.
