§ 72.05 REGISTRATION REQUIRED ON PARKED VEHICLES.
   (A)   It shall be unlawful for any person to park on any highway or other public way in the Village any vehicle of a type required to be registered under the provisions of the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/3-401) which is not registered or for which the appropriate fee, as set forth in the Illinois Vehicle Code, has not been paid, except when application accompanied by proper fee has been made for registration of a vehicle it may be parked temporarily pending complete registration upon displaying a duplicate application duly verified or other evidence of such application.
   (B)   No person shall park a vehicle on any highway or other public way in the Village, nor permit the parking of a vehicle, upon which is displayed a state registration plate, plates or registration stickers after the termination of the registration period for which issued or after the expiration date set pursuant to Sections 3-414 and 3-414.1 of the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5/3-414, 3-414.1).
   (C)   If the defendant claims that they had previously paid the appropriate state registration fees and taxes for the vehicle before the alleged violation, the defendant shall have the burden of proving the existence of the payment by competent evidence. Proof of proper state registration issued by the Secretary of State, or the appropriate registration authority from the foreign state, shall be the only competent evidence of payment.
