§ 158.03 CREATION OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION; TERM AND APPOINTMENT.
   (A)   Creation. In furtherance of the creation and designation of landmarks and historic areas within the Village of Maywood and the purposes of this chapter, a Historic Preservation Commission composed of concerned citizens is hereby established as a part of Village government, pursuant to section 11-48.2-2 of the Illinois Municipal Code (65 ILCS 5/11-48.2-2) and pursuant to the Village’s home rule powers as set forth in Article VII, Section 6 of the Illinois Constitution of 1970.
   (B)   Term and appointment. The number of members of such Commission and their terms of office shall be established by the Village Board as follows: the Commission shall consist of 7 members, including a Chairperson, to be appointed by the Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. The members shall be appointed for 2-year terms provided that 2 of the members initially appointed shall be appointed for 3-year terms. The Chairperson shall appoint a Commission member to serve as Secretary. The Director of Community Development or his or her designee shall serve as the Village staff liaison to the Commission. The Village President shall appoint 1 Trustee to serve as the Village Board liaison to the Commission and who shall attend Commission meetings and report to the Board of Trustees on matters being considered by the Commission. Commissioners shall serve without compensation. Members whose term has expired shall continue to serve until a successor is appointed. The sitting members of the Landmarks Commission at the time of creation of the Commission shall automatically become members of the Historic Preservation Commission upon enactment of this chapter for the remainder of their existing Landmark Commission terms.
   (C)   Qualifications. The members shall be appointed on the basis of expertise, experience or interest in the area of architectural history, building construction or engineering, finance, historical and architectural preservation, neighborhood organizing or real estate.
