1383.03 BUILDINGS AND OCCUPANCIES REQUIRING AUTOMATIC FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS.
   Automatic fire suppression systems shall be installed and maintained as follows:
   (a)    All new buildings 2,500 square feet in area or more as herein defined.
   (b)    All additions to buildings as in subsection (a) hereof where the total area of the addition as herein defined is 2,500 square feet or more, including any additional story or mezzanine, the addition shall have installed a complete fire suppression system. There shall be installed between any new additions requiring a fire suppression system and any unsuppressed area, a fire wall in accordance with the fire resistance rating in the Ohio Building Code.
   (c)    Basement and cellar additions as in subsection (a) hereof where the addition is 2,000 square feet or more, or the total of the complete basement or cellar is 2,000 square feet or more.
   (d)    All buildings, regardless of area, in use group H. High-Hazard as defined in the Ohio Building Code, including any mixed uses.
   (e)    All fire suppression systems shall be supervised by a remote-station system or central-station system.
   (f)    Automatic fire detection and fire protective signaling systems shall be installed in all buildings requiring automatic fire suppression systems in accordance with the provisions of the Ohio Building Code.
Fire detection systems and fire protective signaling systems, both automatic and manual, shall be installed in school buildings where conditions are as follows:
      (1)    The building will contain more than one room occupied by children.
      (2)    The building will be more than one story or will contain a basement or cellar.
      (3)    The arrangement of sending stations and the manner of their connections with sounding devices shall be such that there will be no difference between the sound of actual alarms and drill signals.
      (4)    Systems shall be so arranged that no manual intervention will be required following the actuation of any sending station, for causing effective response of all required sounding devices. Except as approved by the Fire Department, facilities shall not be provided whereby such response can be controlled or modified.
      (5)    Where auxiliary systems are used, such systems shall be arranged so as to permit fire drills to be conducted by those in authority without summoning the Fire Department.
   (g)    All required fire detection and fire protective signaling systems shall be supervised by a remote-station or central-station system.
   (h)    Standpipes shall be installed in accordance with the Ohio Building Code. Standpipes shall be installed in all new buildings more than one story and all buildings with basements or cellars.
   (i)    Smoke and heat vents shall be installed as follows:
      (1)    In all buildings required to be fire suppressed or where a storage or process is hazardous. All such smoke and heat vents which may include plastic domes, light shaft or glass enclosures of a type that will not endanger fire-fighting operations or firefighters from falling or exploding when released by fusible links or other approved means. All systems shall be directed to the outside air.
