A. Skateboard Paths: Where a designated skateboard path has been provided, every operator shall use the path and shall not use any adjacent roadway except at intersections, in an emergency, or where necessary to:
1. Make a permissible left, right or U-turn;
2. Leave or cross the roadway; or
3. Maintain the safe operation of the skateboard.
B. Carrying Articles: No skateboard operator shall carry any article which prevents the use of both hands and feet in the control and operation of the skateboard.
C. Clinging To Vehicles: No skateboard operator shall attach his skateboard or himself to any vehicle upon a lane, roadway, sidewalk or skateboard path.
D. Areas Where Riding Prohibited: Skateboarding shall be prohibited on any roadway or in the bike lane of any roadway not so designated and in no event in any portion of the village specifically designated as a business district.
E. Traffic Control Devices: The police department of the village is authorized to erect official traffic control devices on those areas of public property where skateboarding is allowed.
F. Riding On Sidewalks: Skateboarding is prohibited upon any sidewalk in any portion of the village and specifically prohibited on any sidewalk within any district designated as a business district.
G. Yield Right Of Way: Notwithstanding their status as pedestrians, skateboard operators on sidewalks and bike paths shall yield the right of way to all vehicular and to all other pedestrian (nonskateboard) traffic upon the sidewalk or path.
H. Subject To Rights Of Pedestrians: Skateboard operators on roadways or lanes shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to nonskateboard pedestrians.
I. Protective Gear: Skateboard operators shall wear protective coverings for their hands, knees, elbows, and heads when operating a skateboard and shall not operate a skateboard while barefoot.
J. Number Of Persons On Skateboard: No more than one person shall operate or ride on a skateboard at one time. (1993 Code § 2-8-5)
