§ 23-801.   Pumping; Time Intervals.
Following the completion of the construction of a private or public water supply and installation of the pumping equipment, or alterations, repair or maintenance work, the well shall be pumped continuously until the water discharged is clear. The well, pump, piping system, and other fixtures, shall be filled with water containing a concentration of not less than 100 parts per million of free chlorine. A portion of the chlorine solution shall be recirculated directly to the well in order to insure proper agitation. The water shall not be used for a minimum of 6 hours, but overnight is recommended. Other combinations of concentration and time intervals may be used as are demonstrated to be equally effective.
NOTE: The well owner and all users should be informed of the disinfection process because some users may be sensitive to chlorine. Additionally, the possible reaction between chlorine and high iron concentrations should be discussed.
