208.07 LEVY AND COLLECTION OF TAXES.
   (a)   The Council shall, on or before the last Tuesday in December in each year, ascertain the total amount of appropriations legally made for all corporate purposes to be collected from the tax levy of that fiscal year. Then, by an ordinance specifying, in detail, the purposes for which the appropriations have been made and the amount appropriated for each purpose respectively, Council shall levy taxes, not to exceed the total amount so ascertained, upon all property subject to taxation in the City, as that property is assessed and equalized for State and County purposes for the current year.

   (b)   The City Clerk shall, immediately after the passage of such tax levy ordinance, make a certified copy thereof, under the seal of the City, and shall, pursuant to law, file the same with the County Clerk. No City Clerk shall fail to file such tax levy ordinance.

   (c)   The County Treasurer, collecting the tax levied under subsections (a) and (b) hereof shall settle with and pay over to the City Treasurer, as often as once every two weeks from the time he or she commences the collection thereof, all taxes he or she has then collected, until the whole tax collected is paid over.
