(A) Consideration of a commemorative public features shall be initiated by a written request from a person, organization, or other entity requesting the commemorative public feature. The written request shall include a description the requested commemorative feature, the reason justifying the commemoration, the existing feature name (if any), and information regarding requested signage or plaques.
(B) A request for a commemorative public feature must be accompanied by a fee of $25.
(C) A proposed commemorative public feature shall have some nexus to the place of the feature and contributions of the person, organization, corporation, foundation, or similar entity.
(D) A request for a commemorative public feature name shall be initially reviewed and considered for recommendation by the City Administrator. The City Administrator also may request the review and recommendation of public safety service providers and county officials, where necessary. The City Administrator shall seek the review and recommendation of the petition by all relevant city boards and commissions with jurisdiction, such as the Parks Advisory Board and Historical Commission.
(E) The City Administrator shall provide a recommendation regarding the proposal to the City Council.
(F) Final approval, either accepting or rejecting the request for a commemorative public feature shall be within the sole discretion of the City Council.
(G) The cost of making and installing appropriate plaques or signs designating the commemorative name shall be paid for by the original requestors.
