For the purpose of this subchapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning. All other words and phrases herein shall have the meaning ascribed to them by the Illinois Environmental Protection Act, the Solid Waste Planning and Recycling Act or the Local Solid Waste Disposal Act.
CURBSIDE GARBAGE AND WASTE COLLECTION. Refers to unrecyclable items collected from a set out point in line with the street curb, or in line with rural mail boxes on a curb-less street.
CURBSIDE RECYCLABLE COLLECTION. Refers to recyclable items collected from a set out point in line with the street curb, or in line with rural mail boxes on a curb-less street.
ERWP (list of Economically Recyclable Waste Products.) These include newspaper, magazines, all grades of mixed (low to high grade) paper, cardboard (OCC), plastics including HDPE, PET plastic bottles, (otherwise known as #1 & #2 plastic), clear, amber and green glass bottles, aluminum, bi-metal and tin (steel cans).
GARBAGE. Wastes resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking and consumption of food.
GARBAGE AND RUBBISH REMOVAL CONTRACTOR. A person, firm, corporation or other entity who collects garbage, rubbish, refuse, trash, and the like, for hire in the incorporated area of the city.
HOUSEHOLDS. Refers to single-family residential dwellings having curbside garbage and waste/ and or curbside recyclable collection service.
LARGE ITEM. Refers to oversized items such as furniture, bedding, cartons, boxes, bathtubs, radios, televisions, musical records, tape players, musical instruments (except for pianos), but shall not include such items as broken concrete, building materials, rocks, fallen trees, dirt or any item to large to be placed in a compactor-type truck.
LARGE RECYCLABLE ITEMS. Empty refrigerators with doors removed, empty freezers with doors removed, stoves, hot water heaters, washers, dryers, microwaves, dishwashers, lawn mowers, bicycles, air conditioners, wire hangers, wire fencing, empty barrels, empty cans, disassembled swing sets, propane tanks, car batteries, or any car parts with the exception of tires.
RECYCLING CONTAINERS. Eighteen-gallon rectangular bins made from recycled plastic to be used by the source or generator of the waste stream for the source separation of recyclables from nonrecyclables.
REFUSE. Combustible trash, including, but not limited to, paper, cartons, boxes, barrels, wood, excelsior, tree branches, yard trimmings, wood furniture, bedding; noncombustible trash, including, but limited to, metals, tin cans, metal furniture, dirt, small quantities of rock and pieces of concrete, glass, crockery, other mineral waste; street rubbish, including, but not limited to, street sweepings, dirt, leaves, catch-basin dirt, contents of litter receptacles, but refuse does not mean earth and wastes from building operations, nor shall it include solid wastes resulting from industrial processes and manufacturing operations such as food processing wastes, boiler-house cinders, lumber, scraps and shavings.
SOLID WASTE. WASTE as defined in the Illinois Environmental Protection Act, which is in solid or semi-solid form provided that SOLID WASTE does not include material that is intended or collected to be recycled.
