10-4-4-3: REDEMPTION:
When tagged, any animal impounded under the provisions of this chapter, except such as may have bitten any person, as specified in section 10-4-4-4 of this chapter shall, unless sooner redeemed, be held for the specified time after notice has been given pursuant to Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/10, in order to afford opportunity to the owner, keeper or harborer thereof to redeem the same. Any such owner, keeper or harborer desiring to redeem his impounded animal shall pay to the city, collectable by either the city clerk or the Tazewell County animal control administrator, in addition to the costs of keeping such animal while impounded, an impounding fee, as follows:
   A.   Twenty five dollars ($25.00) for the first time an animal is so impounded;
   B.   Fifty dollars ($50.00) for the second time an animal is so impounded;
   C.   One hundred dollars ($100.00) for the third and each subsequent time thereafter an animal is so impounded.
In addition, in those cases where the animal impounded is required to be licensed and/or inoculated against rabies, the owner of such animal must display proof that such animal is properly licensed and/or inoculated. In the absence of such proof, no such animal shall be released from the shelter until the proper license and inoculation have been obtained and the costs thereof paid.
Any tagged animal which has been impounded and not redeemed with the statutory requirements shall be humanely destroyed or otherwise disposed of by the poundkeeper.
Any untagged animal shall be kept four (4) working days and if not redeemed shall be humanely destroyed or otherwise disposed of by the poundkeeper. (Ord. 413, 1-14-1990)
