10-1-2: HIRING OF POLICEMEN; WORK SHIFT:
   A.   Hiring Of Policemen: All policemen shall be hired by the Police Committee of the City Council, after consultation with the Chief of Police.
   B.   Shift: The normal working hours of all full time policemen shall be forty (40) hours per week. Any full shift in excess of the normal working hours shall be compensated at the regular rate that is then in effect. (Ord. 396, 1-8-1990)
   C.   Part Time Officers:
      1.   Any person employed as a part time police officer must meet the following standards:
         a.   Be of good moral character, of sound health, and physically and mentally able to perform assigned duties.
         b.   Be at least twenty one (21) years of age.
         c.   Pass a drug screen test.
         d.   Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
         e.   Possess a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
         f.   Possess no prior felony convictions.
         g.   Any individual who has served in the U.S. military must have been honorably discharged.
      2.   A part time police officer shall have all the responsibilities of a full time police officer and such specific duties as delineated in the general orders of the Marquette Heights Police Department, but the number of hours a part time officer may work within a calendar year is restricted.
      3.   A part time police officer shall be qualified to enter and successfully complete any training mandated by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
      4.   The aforesaid hiring standard, particularly with respect to part time police officers employed by the City of Marquette Heights, shall be submitted to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, as required by statute. (Ord. 813, 9-10-2012)
