4-1-5: ELECTRICAL CODE AMENDMENTS:
The following regulations shall apply in addition to those found in the national electrical code 2008:
   A.   Violation Penalties: Any person who shall violate a provision of this code or shall fail to comply with any of the requirements thereof or who shall erect, construct, alter or repair a building or structure in violation of an approved plan or directive of the code official shall be guilty of a violation of this code, which such violation shall be punishable by a fine in an amount not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00). Each day that a violation of this code exists or continues to exist shall be deemed a separate offense.
   B.   Unlawful Continuance: Any person who shall continue any electrical work in or about a structure after having been served with a stop work order, except such work as that person is directed to perform or remove a violation or unsafe conditions, shall be liable to a fine of not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00). Each day that a violation of the national electrical code 2008 exists or continues to exist shall be deemed a separate offense.
   C.   Amendments: The following insertions and amendments are made to the national electrical code 2008:
Section 101.1: Insert:
      Residential: $50.00 plus $10.00 for each additional $1000.00 or fraction thereof.
      Commercial: $400.00 plus $10.00 for each additional $1000.00 or fraction thereof.
      If a permit is not obtained prior to the start of a project, ALL permit fees are doubled.
   D.   Minimum Wire Size: All wire intended to carry electricity at 110/120 or 220/240 volts in any circuit installed in conjunction with any construction or modification, whether new construction, repair, replacement or upgrade shall be 12 AWG (American wire gauge) or larger. All references in the code which purport to allow the use of any wire smaller than 12 AWG in any circuit intended to carry electricity at 110/120 or 220/240 volts shall be construed as a reference to 12 AWG.
   E.   Licensing: It shall be unlawful for any person to perform electrical work within the city of Marquette Heights except under the following circumstances:
      1.   The person is the owner of the property where the work is being performed,
      2.   The person possesses and provides to the building inspector or electrical inspector a current valid electrician's license issued by either the city of Pekin, Illinois, or the city of Peoria, Illinois, or
      3.   The person has obtained a waiver from the mayor. The mayor may issue waivers to any person or contractor that possesses and provides to the building inspector or electrical inspector a current valid electrician's license issued by a governmental unit located within the state of Illinois.
