It shall be the duty of the owners of real estate within the town abutting on any sidewalk, or the agent of such owner, or the occupant of such property, to keep the sidewalk and driveway entrance or apron adjacent to their properties in good repair. Any property owner, agent of the owner or occupant failing to keep the sidewalk or driveway area adjacent to his or her property in repair shall be liable to reimburse the town for all loss that it may sustain, or any damage, cost, or expenses that may be imposed upon it by reason of the property owner, agent to occupant to perform such duty.
