§ 90.37 FEE FOR RELEASE OF IMPOUNDED VEHICLE.
   (A)   Before a person or firm entitled to possession of any legally impounded vehicle shall be permitted to remove the vehicle from the custody of the city’s Police Department or any towing or storage service acting as agent of the Police Department, he or she shall furnish evidence of his or her identity and ownership of the vehicle and right of possession thereof, shall sign a receipt for the vehicle and shall pay a fee for the release at the rate of $25 for citizens of the city, $50 for non-residents and $50 for insurance companies or other third parties entitled to possession of the vehicle. The fees are calculated to cover administrative expenses associated with the handling of the impounded vehicle.
   (B)   There shall be no charge for residents where the towing or impoundment charges are related to a vehicle involved in the commission of a violent crime, as defined in 720 ILCS, and is being held for use as evidence in the trial of that matter; provided, however, that, where the resident is the person charged with such crime, then this waiver of charges shall not apply.
