§ 123.01 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purposes of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply:
   GUEST. Individuals who have properly registered with the operator of the hotel (registered guests), persons occupying guest rooms with registered guests, visitors invited to guest rooms by a registered guest and persons patronizing food or beverage facilities provided by the hotel or motel.
   HOTEL. Any building or buildings in which the public may, for monetary consideration, obtain temporary living quarters, sleeping and/or housekeeping accommodations. The term includes, but is not limited to, inns, motels, tourist homes or courts, and lodging houses. Except as otherwise provided by this code, this definition shall also include ROOMING HOUSES and all temporary lodging establishments operating within the City of Markham, with the exception of short term residential rentals, as defined herein.
   OPERATOR. The person operating an establishment that requires licensure under this chapter.
   OPERATOR'S LICENSE. A business license issued by the city for the operation of a hotel as defined herein.
   ROOMING HOUSE. A dwelling house, roominghouse, furnished-room house, lodginghouse, boardinghouse or any other similarly occupied building, structure or portion thereof, kept, held or used, where sleeping or lodging is provided (or which is equipped to provide lodging) by prearrangement for a definite period, for compensation, for three or more persons in contradistinction to hotels open to transients.
