§ 33.20 HIRING OF LATERAL TRANSFER POLICE PATROL OFFICERS.
   (A)   That the Markham Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is hereby authorized to hire police patrol officers for employment with the City of Markham Police Department who have not been originally selected by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, provided such officers have been employed, whether currently or in the past, for at least two years as a full time sworn law enforcement officer in any state, county, university or municipal law enforcement agency (part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement); are in good standing with the agency in which they currently serve or previously served; have successfully completed the Illinois Basic Law Enforcement Academy and possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Standards and Training Board or are qualified to take the Illinois Law Enforcement Standards and Training Board examination (part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement); are United States citizens; are at least 21 years old at the time of application; have a high school diploma or equivalent thereof; have a valid driver's license; have no felony convictions and have good moral character as described in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6; have not had any administrative charges filed by any employer nor any charges of violence filed by any civilians in criminal or civil courts or administratively; and have not had any disciplinary cases or complaints filed by any employer.
   (B)   Applicants must agree to comply with all requirements, procedures, qualifications and standards of the position of police patrol officer set forth in the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rules and Regulations and have the ability to pass all examination and training requirements, including but not limited to, background investigation, psychological examination, medical examination, drug screening and oral interview.
   (C)   Applicants shall furnish upon request a copy of the following, to the extent applicable: a resume; professional licenses; training certificates; documents confirming work experience; birth certificate; high school diploma or GED certificate; transcripts of higher learning; and naval or military service board and discharge papers (DD-214/Copy 40).
   (D)   The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is hereby directed to certify all applicants who satisfy all requirements set forth in this section and Board of Fire and Police Commission Rules and Regulations to the Chief of the City of Markham Police Department as being eligible for appointment as full-time police patrol officers.
   (E)   Applicants are allowed to bring with them no more than four years of police service from their prior employer for pension purposes. Applicants will be on probation for one year from the date of hire. Applicants must successfully complete their probationary period.
   (F)   Questions regarding participation in the City of Markham Police Department Pension Fund shall be directed to and answered by that fund.
   (G)   Any lateral transfer of any police patrol officer hired after May 1, 2020 and the effective date of this Ord. 22-O-2325 shall be entitled to the same rights and benefits of current full-time non-lateral police patrol officers as set forth under Illinois law, this code, and Markham Board of Fire and Police Commission Rules and Regulations.
