Sec. 15-137. Structures and appurtenances over sidewalks.
   No person shall erect over any sidewalk or street any part of a building except marquees and signs which are approved by the building inspector. Awnings may be attached to buildings provided they are supported upon metallic frames and at least eight (8) feet above the level of the sidewalk. Reconstruction of porches and balconies of historic significance shall be permitted to extend ten (10) feet over the sidewalk and eight (8) feet above the sidewalk, provided that the structure is five (5) feet from the vehicular travel way. Reconstruction shall be permitted only if evidence of historic features exists in photos and when features are noted in the U.S. Department of Interior description of "Historic and Architectural Resources in Downtown Marion". Reconstruction of historic features shall be comparable to original construction.
