Sec. 2-326. Establishment and Authority.
   Pursuant to the authority in G.S. 160D-303, the city council establishes the historic preservation commission and gives the commission authority to assist on the conservation and preservation of historic districts and landmarks within the city planning and development jurisdiction consistent with G.S. Chapter 160D - Part 4 Historic Preservation and city code Chapter 21 Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) for the means of listing, regulation, and acquisition:
   a.   To safeguard the heritage of the city by preserving any district or landmark therein that embodies important elements of its culture, history, architectural history, or prehistory.
   b.   To promote the use and conservation of such district or landmark for the education, pleasure, and enrichment of the residents of the city and the State as a whole.
