Sec. 2-264. Powers, duties and functions.
   The planning board shall operate according to powers granted under the authority of North Carolina G.S. 160D-30l to perform the following duties:
   a.   To develop a comprehensive land use plan for the orderly growth and development of Marion by setting forth goals, objectives, and policies designed to manage the quantity, type, cost, location, timing, and quality of development and redevelopment within the community.
   b.   To make studies of the general development characteristics within its jurisdiction and surrounding areas;
   c.   To determine objectives to be sought in the development of the study area;
   d.   To prepare and adopt plans for achieving these objectives;
   e.   To formulate and recommend to the city council the adoption or amendment of ordinances that, in the opinion of the board will serve to promote the orderly development of the community in accordance with the comprehensive land use plan;
   f.   To direct the attention of appropriate city officials to needed enforcement of any ordinance that may affect the general development of the community;
   g.   To advise the city council concerning the use and amendment of means for carrying out plans;
   h.   To perform any other related duties that the city council may direct.
