It shall be unlawful for any person to engage in or pursue any business, vocation or calling mentioned in this chapter without first obtaining a license to do so. The required license shall be for the calendar year or any part thereof and the payment therefor shall be due and payable on the first day of each year or before commencement of any such business, vocation or calling. A. All home occupation licenses shall pay an annual license fee of fifty dollars ($50.00) to the City.
B. All other businesses whether wholesale or retail operating within Mapleton City shall pay a license fee of fifty dollars ($50.00) per business license, plus twenty five dollars ($25.00) per employee, or independent contractor of the business. For the purpose of calculating the business license only, the owner(s), manager(s), and other administrative officers, directors or partners, who receive compensation of services rendered on behalf of the business; and all family members of the owner(s), manager(s), and other administrative officers, directors or partners, who receive compensation for services rendered on behalf of the business shall be counted as an employee or independent contractor.
C. If any license fee payment is made after January 31, a penalty of twenty percent (20%) of the amount of such license fee shall be added to the original amount thereof for each month or part thereof that the fee remains unpaid, unless otherwise set forth herein. No license shall issue until all penalties legally assessed have been paid in full.
If the license has not been renewed for sixty (60) days from the due date, the business shall be considered to be doing business without a license in violation of this chapter and is subject to the criminal penalties set forth in this chapter. (Ord. 2008-09, 5-7-2008, eff. 6-11-2008)
