(A) Persons who are able-bodied residents of the City of Mapleton shall be eligible for membership in the Department provided they are not younger than 19 years of age.
(B) Any member shall have the privilege of presenting the name or names of prospective members.
(C) (1) Any person eligible shall, if interested in joining the Department, fill out an application form supplied by the Department and shall submit same to the Chief or any member of the Department.
(2) This application shall be reviewed by a Special Committee and upon their recommendation the application shall be voted on by the members of the Department at the December business meeting.
(3) All members must also be approved by the Council.
(D) Any eligible person having submitted an application accepted by a 7/8 majority of the members present by secret ballot and approved by the Council shall enter into the probationary period of 12 months.
(E) (1) Each person before he or she may become a probationary firefighter, must undergo a thorough physical examination by a physician who shall complete the physical examination form supplied by the Department.
(2) The report shall contain a statement whether or not, in the physical opinion, there is any evidence of myocarditis, coronary sclerosis or pneumonia or its equal in the candidate at the time of his or her examination.
(3) The report shall be retained and permanently kept in the files of the Department. The cost of the physical examination will be paid by the candidate.
