§ 34.54 DISPOSITION OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY.
   (A)   All abandoned, stolen or recovered property which remains in the possession of the Chief of Police for a period of 60 days without being claimed by its owner may be sold or disposed of as provided in this subchapter.
   (B)   If the unclaimed property is determined to have no value, it may be destroyed.
   (C)   If the unclaimed property is determined to have value, notice of the time and place of the sale of the property shall be posted in a prominent place at the City Hall and shall be published at least once in a newspaper of general circulation on a date more than 30 days prior to such sale.
   (D)   The public auction provided for in the preceding paragraph shall be conducted at the place and time designated in the notice. The City Manager shall conduct such public auction and shall keep an accurate statement of each article sold and the price bid and paid therefor. All sales shall be for cash. All funds received shall be paid to the city.
   (E)   Prior to the public auction, the head of any department of the city may request, in writing, that any items offered or to be offered for sale be assigned to his/her department. On the date designated for the public auction, the City Manager may, in his/her discretion, assign such item or items to such department or sell such item or items at public auction.
   (F)   No employee or officer of the city shall, either directly or indirectly, submit a bid or purchase any property sold pursuant to this subchapter.
