§ 50.01 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   BACKFLOW. Water of questionable quality, wastes, or other contaminants entering a public water supply system due to reversal of flow.
   CROSS CONNECTION. A connection or arrangement of piping or appurtenances through which a backflow could occur.
   DEPARTMENT. The Department of Public Works of the village.
   MULTI-ZONE LAWN SPRINKLER SYSTEM. A sprinkler system that can be potentially interconnected with other lawn sprinkler systems particularly through mechanical means.
   POTABLE WATER. Water free from impurities present in amounts sufficient to cause disease or harmful physiological effects and conforming in its bacteriological and chemical quality to public health department standards.
   RESIDENTIAL EQUIVALENT UNIT or REU. The measure of potential water usage equal to the quantity normally generated by occupants of a residence by a single-family of average size. REU factors for other types of occupancy and use shall be determined in § 50.03.
   SINGLE-ZONE LAWN SPRINKLER SYSTEM. A sprinkler system that is not interconnected and cannot be transformed into a multi-zone system without a mechanical alteration.
   SUB-SOIL DRAIN. A drain in the yard that is not a septic system which is approved by the Washtenaw County Health Department.
   TAP-IN. The portion of the water connection which joins the water main and extends to the shut-off valve.
   WATER CONNECTION. The part of the water distribution system connecting the water main with the premises served.
   WATER MAIN. The part of the water distribution system located within easement lines or streets designed to supply more than 1 water connection.
