(A) Each person accepted as a firefighter or cadet shall be physically capable of carrying out the duties of a firefighter and shall submit to a physical examination to determine his or her physical fitness upon the orders of the Mayor, with the approval of the City Council. The physical examination shall be at the expense of the city and shall be made by a doctor selected by the city.
(B) Any firefighter or cadet directed to undergo a physical fitness examination shall be temporarily suspended from active duty as a firefighter or cadet, as the case may be, immediately upon receipt of the orders until the examination is had and a favorable result had from the examination. The examination shall be held within a reasonable time of the suspension.
