12-5-2: AMENDMENTS TO CODE:
   A.   Administrative Amendments: Wherein, certain portions of the Chicago electrical code conflict with or are not applicable to the administration or enforcement of the electrical code within the village. The following amendments are made to the Chicago electrical code:
      1.   Wherever the term "city of Chicago" and similar terms are referenced in the code, the "village of Lyons" shall be substituted therefor.
      2.   All references to the "city council" shall be substituted with "village board of trustees". All references to the "mayor" shall be substituted with the "village president".
      3.   All references to the "electrical bureau" shall be substituted with the "building department".
      4.   Article XIII, "Signs, Billboards, Signboards And Related Structures", is deleted due to conflicting regulations with those provided by the village sign regulations, as promulgated in chapter 11 of this title. All technical provisions of the Chicago electrical code 2000, article 600, relating to signs shall remain in force. (1965 Code § 7-3-2)
      5.   The electrical code for the construction, alteration or repair of one- and two-family dwellings shall be the ICC 2006 international residential code, or its successor, as adopted and amended by the village; however, all amendments enumerated in this chapter shall remain in full force and effect unless a stricter standard is provided by said code.
      6.   The electrical code for the maintenance of existing buildings shall be the ICC 2006 international property maintenance code, or its successor, as adopted and amended by the village; however, all amendments enumerated in this chapter shall remain in full force and effect unless a stricter standard is provided by said code.    B.   Technical Amendments:
      1.   All electrical grounding in new buildings and remodeling shall be attached to the street side of the water meter. If this is not possible, the system shall be grounded as directed by the electrical inspector. A bonding jumper shall be provided across the meter.
      2.   An automatic smoke detection system, wired into the building electrical system, with battery backup, shall be installed in all new buildings and major remodeling work. The technical sections of the Chicago electrical code 2000 and NFPA life safety code 101 shall apply with regard to the type and installation of same.
      3.   All electrical conductors for new or upgraded systems must be copper wire.
      4.   A meter shall not be provided to a new electrical service unless same is approved and reported to the electrical utility company by the building director or his designee.
      5.   A minimum one hundred (100) amp service with a minimum twenty (20) circuit positions is required for a new dwelling service. Dwellings in excess of one thousand five hundred (1,500) square feet, excluding basements, must be equipped with a two hundred (200) amp service with a minimum thirty (30) circuit positions.
      6.   Approved telecommunications and fire alarm wire shall not be required to be installed in pipe. Such installations shall otherwise be safely and securely mounted in a workmanlike condition. Unprotected fire alarm wire shall be rated in accordance with the assembly provided. (1965 Code § 7-3-6)
