6-2-2: DEFINITIONS:
For the purpose of this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section:
AIDING MUNICIPALITY: A municipality furnishing fire equipment and personnel to a stricken municipality or to another aiding municipality.
MUNICIPALITY: A city or village.
MUTUAL AID AREA: The territory occupied within the village limits and other areas protected by the following departments and districts: Argonne, Bolingbrook, Brookfield, Clarendon Heights, Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Downers Grove Estates, Forest View, Hinsdale, La Grange, La Grange Park, Lemont, Lyons, McCook, Pleasantview fire district, Riverside, Tri-State protection district, Western Springs, Westmont, and Romeoville in Cook and DuPage Counties.
MUTUAL FIRE AID PROGRAM: A plan or program as provided for in this chapter whereby the municipalities participating in the program agree to come to one anther's assistance in case of emergency, fire or other disaster too large for local equipment and personnel to handle.
PARTICIPATING MUNICIPALITY: A municipality, in the mutual aid area, that participates in the mutual fire aid program by adopting an ordinance authorizing or approving the program and entering into an appropriate agreement (substantially as provided herein) with other participating municipalities for rendering and receiving aid in case of emergency, fire or other disaster.
STRICKEN MUNICIPALITY: A participating municipality in which an emergency, fire or other disaster occurs that is of such magnitude that it cannot be adequately coped with by local fire equipment and personnel. (1965 Code § 8-4-2; amd. 2009 Code)
