The town provides paid sick leave benefits to all eligible employees for periods of temporary absence due to illnesses or injuries. Eligible employee classifications are as follows:
(A) Full-time employees shall accrue sick leave benefits at the rate of five days per year. The 12- month period begins when the employee starts to earn sick leave benefits.
(B) Paid sick leave may be used in maximum increments of eight hours per day and minimum increments of four hours per day.
(C) An eligible employee may use sick leave benefits for an absence due to their own illness, injury or that of a child, parent or spouse of the employee.
(D) Employees who are unable to report to work due to illness or injury shall notify their direct supervisor before the scheduled start of their workday, if possible. The direct supervisor shall also be contacted on each additional day of absence.
(E) Paid sick days are paid at the employee’s base pay rate at the time of the sick day.
(F) Unused sick leave benefits may be forwarded to following year but not exceed 30 days of accrued sick days. All unused sick days above the 30-day accrued sick days will be forfeited.
