159.08 LONGEVITY COMPENSATION.
   In addition to their regular base compensation, including any premium except for overtime pay, full-time employees shall be paid each year, in the month of the anniversary of their appointment, additional compensation for continuous service with the City and the Lyndhurst Municipal Court, based upon the following schedule:
   After the completion of five full years of continuous service, longevity shall be earned as follows:
 
At the completion of the fifth through the ninth year of continuous service
2% of current annual salary
At the completion of the tenth through the fourteenth year of continuous service
3% of current annual salary
At the completion of the fifteenth through the nineteenth year of continuous service
4% of current annual salary
At the completion of the twentieth year and over of continuous service
5% of current annual salary
 
   Part-time employees hired prior to March 1, 1974, shall be paid additional compensation for longevity at the rate of one-half the amount set forth in the schedule of longevity payments to full-time employees.
   No longevity credit shall be given for seasonal employment.
   Additional compensation for longevity shall be paid in the second payday of the month of the anniversary date of appointment. In the case of death or retirement of an employee, payment of longevity compensation shall be made to the employee or his or her personal representative for the prorated portion of his or her service during his or her current anniversary year.
   Employees who transfer to another department of the City (including the Municipal Court), or who have terminated and returned to service within one year, shall be eligible for longevity pay as though there had been no interruption in their service, except that credit shall not be given for periods of absence from City employment.
   The provisions of this section are not applicable to elected officials, members of boards and commissions, Auxiliary Police or part-time employees hired or appointed for the first time on or after March 1, 1974.
