The Governing Body may employ a Zoning Administrator who shall have the duty of enforcing all building, zoning, and housing regulations as herein prescribed. He or she shall inspect all buildings repaired, altered, built, or moved in the city as often as necessary to insure compliance with the effective zoning ordinance of the city. He or she shall have the power and authority to order, at the direction of the Governing Body, all work stopped on any construction, alteration, or relocation which violates any provisions prescribed herein, including violations of the effective zoning ordinance of the city, to be remedied immediately. If the stop order is an oral one, it shall be followed by a written stop order within one hour. Such written order may be served by any municipal law enforcement officer. In the event the Governing Body fails to employ a Zoning Administrator, the Chief of Police shall be the Zoning Inspector ex officio.
