(a) Pipe and pipe fittings shall be vitrified clay conforming in all respects to the requirements of ASTM Specification C-13 "Standard Strength Clay Sewer Pipe" and Specification C-200 "Extra Strength Sewer Pipe," except as otherwise authorized by the Board of Public Affairs of the Village of Loudonville, which may authorize the use of PVC plastic. Extra strength sewer pipe shall be used when the depth of the sewer below grade exceeds the following:
8 inch V.S.P. - below 12 feet
10 inch V.S.P. - below 12 feet
12 inch V.S.P. - below 14 feet
(b) Joints for vitrified clay pipe and fittings shall have a die-cast premolded "slip-seal" joint cast on the pipe at the factory. The softening agent, as furnished by the pipe manufacturer, shall be applied to both the bell and spigot ends of the pipe to plasticize the bituminous material. If any jointing material is chipped, cracked, insecurely bonded to the sewer pipe, not cast concentrically on the pipe or more than one-quarter inch out of round, the pipe shall be rejected.
(c) Permitted PVC gravity sewers shall meet ASTM Specification D-3033 or Specification D-3034, SDR 35, and shall be installed in accordance with ASTM Specification D- 2321 "Recommended Practice for Underground Installation of Thermoplastic Sewer Pipe."
(d) Joints or fittings shall meet ASTM Specification D-2855 "Recommended Practice for Making Solvent - Cement Joints with PVC Pipe and Fittings." Alternatively, elastomeric gasket joints, using a lubricant and elastomeric gasket approved by the manufacturer, may be used. Elastomeric compound shall comply with ASTM Specification F-477.
(e) Manholes shall be constructed of sewer brick, ASTM Specification C-32-50, or approved precast concrete. Manholes, frames and covers shall be Burch MST-24 and manhole steps shall be Burch B-1-B.
(f) Concrete for manhole bases, grout and pipe encasement, etc., shall be mixed in the following proportions:
Type of Coarse Aggregate | Wt. in Lbs. of Dry Aggs. per 94 lb. Bag of Cement | Min. Cement per C.Y. of Concrete | Max. Net Water Content Gals. per Bag of Cement | Slump Range in Inches
Fine Agg. | Course Agg. | Regular Placing | Vibrat. Placing
Gravel | 200 | 380 | 5.5 | 6.5 | 4-1 | 3-1 |
Limestone | 225 | 350 | 5.5 | 6.5 | 4-1 | 3-1 |
Slag | 245 | 290 | 5.5 | 6.5 | 4-1 | 3-1 |
(g) Alternative construction materials may be used if approved by the Engineer. Where wet, soggy or unstable ground conditions are encountered, vitrified clay pipe having joints with resilient properties in accordance with ASTM Specification C-425-60T, asbestos cement pipe having watertight joints or cast-iron pipe with watertight joints may be required as determined by the Engineer.
