(a) This Prohibited Political Activities Policy (“Policy”) has been adopted in accordance with laws and regulations of the State of Ohio and the Village of Lordstown (“Village”).
(b) This Policy is established pursuant to the Auditor of State’s recommendation and Ohio Revised Code Sections 9.03, 124.59, and 124.61
(c) The Village of Lordstown hereby prohibits the following political activities:
(1) No governing body within the Village of Lordstown shall use public funds to publish, distribute, or communicate information that supports or opposes the nomination or election of a candidate for public office, the investigation, prosecution, or recall of a public official, or the passage of a levy or bond issue. In addition, no public funds shall be used to compensate any employee of the Village of Lordstown for time spent on any activity to influence the outcome of an election for any of the purposes described above.
(2) Applicants for appointment or promotion in the classified service shall not pay for appointments or promotions.
(3) Public officials (or potential public officials) shall not use or promise to use, any official authority or influence in order to secure or aid any person in securing any office or employment in the classified service, or any promotion or increase of salary therein, as a reward for political influence or service.
