(a) Portable storage units (PSU) are prolubited from being placed in streets or the front yard of a property. A portable storage unit shall be placed in the driveway of a parcel at the furthest accessible point from the street. The size of any portable storage unit shall not exceed forty (40) feet in length by eight (8) feet in width by eight (8) feet in height. Tractor trailers shall not be permitted for use as portable storage units. The portable storage unit may not block the site line from the property to the street for the entrance or exit of vehicles to or from the property. The portable storage unit shall be placed at least ten (10) feet from the existing right of way and no closer than five (5) feet from all abutting residential districts.
The applicant must obtain preapproval of the location by the Chief Building Official in
the following situations:
(1) If the property does not have a driveway;
(2) If the property is a corner lot;
(3) If the location of the unit in the driveway in the driveway is in the front yard of the parcel due to a shorter driveway area.
(b) No portable storage unit shall be used to store solid waste, construction debris, demolition debris, recyclable materials, business inventory, commercial goods, or any illegal or hazardous materials. Upon reasonable notice to the applicant, the City of Lorain may inspect the contents of any portable storage unit at any reasonable time to ensure that it is not being used to store prohibited materials. Any portable storage unit shall be free of dents, rust and/or graffiti and shall be maintained in good condition. Stacking of portable storage units on top of each other is strictly prolubited. A PSU shall conform in color with the appearance of the building structure located on the real property and contain no advertisements. All PSU units shall have a flat, non-reflective solid neutral color that matches the surrounding environment.
