(a) Service entrances on residential buildings must be installed in rigid metal conduit not less than one and one-quarter inch I.D. and shall not be concealed. The outside termination fitting or service head shall be of a type designed for the purpose and shall in no case be less than twelve feet above the ground or any platform.
(b) Meters or metering equipment inserted into the outside service conduit shall be no higher than six feet above the ground or platform below the meter.
(c) Service entrance conductors shall not be less than No. 2 A.W.G. copper.
(d) Service entrances shall be designed in accordance with load and diversity requirements sufficient to carry the load according to the standards of the National Electrical Code, current edition, but the minimum size for individual residences shall be one hundred ampere three wire. Main disconnecting means shall be required. If of the breaker type, breaker shall be bolted down. One spare circuit shall be required for each five active circuits.
(e) Services supplying current at 600 volts or over shall not be attached to buildings but shall be run underground, subject to approval of the Electrical Inspection Department and electric utility company.
(f) Services and feeders supplying electrical heating loads shall be calculated strictly in accordance with latest National Electrical Code requirements and shall be installed in conformity with this Electrical Code by licensed electrical contractors.
(g) The disconnecting means shall not be more than five feet six inches or be less than two feet from the floor. Disconnecting means shall not be placed in bed, bath or toilet rooms, in coal bins, elevators or ventilating shafts, attics, stairways, show windows, or in pantries or clothes closets. They shall not be placed over doorways, stoves, radiators, sinks, laundry tubs, motors, wash stands or machinery. They shall not be placed closer than thirty-six inches measured horizontally to stoves, radiators, sinks, laundry tubs, motors, wash stands, gas meters or moving machinery, and shall not be placed on insecure partitions or any wall subject to vibration.
(h) All circuits shall be marked or tagged in panels for lighting or power, and location of circuits shall be marked on panel directory in residential and commercial buildings.
(i) In apartments, duplex houses, etc., all meter switches shall be plainly marked with metal tags showing to what set of rooms the wiring shall belong. Installation of meter wiring and equipment shall generally conform to requirements of the utility company as approved by the City Electrical Inspector.
(j) Each service installation requires individual attention. Contractors are requested to call the utility company for information on each installation before proceeding with wiring. In such cases where the installation does not meet the requirements of this Electrical Code, permission must be obtained from the Electrical Inspection Department before installing the work.
(k) Every electrical contractor shall leave his name, address and telephone number on the meter board to enable the Electrical Inspector to communicate promptly with the contractor when necessary.
(l) Range cable shall be used on electric range installations and must conform with the National Electrical Code.
(m) All circuits shall be protected by type “s” fuses or noninterchangeable breakers.
(n) Recess fixtures shall be wired with type AF or AI fixture wire, unless of a type especially approved for the purpose.
(o) All fluorescent lights on new installations and when replacing ballasts on old installations must be protected by fuse mounted next to ballast.
(p) Cleaning plants (as per National Electrical Code).
