It is the duty of the building official to administer and enforce this chapter. If the building official finds that any of the provisions of this chapter are being violated, the person responsible for such violations shall be notified in writing indicating the nature of the violation and ordering the action necessary to correct such violation. The building official shall order discontinuance of illegal use of land, buildings, or structures; removal of illegal buildings or structures or of additions, alterations or structural changes to buildings; discontinuance of any illegal work being done; or take any other action necessary to ensure compliance with or to prevent violations of the provisions of this chapter.
