11-4-7: INSPECTIONS:
   A.   Inspections Generally; Violations:
      1.   The electrical inspector shall have the power and it shall be his duty to inspect or reinspect all overhead, underground and interior wires and apparatus conducting electrical current for any of the purposes set forth in this chapter. When such conductors or apparatus are found to be unsafe to life or property, he shall notify the person, firm or corporation owning, using or operating same, to place them in a safe condition.
      2.   If the owner, user or operator of such defective wiring or equipment shall refuse or fail to comply with the requirements of the electrical inspector and shall not correct all defects as directed within a specified time, it shall be the duty of the electrical inspector to notify, in writing, the service company, firm or individual furnishing the electric current to same. Upon receipt of such notice, that service company, firm or individual furnishing electric current to such defective wiring or equipment shall, within twenty four (24) hours, disconnect the service or feed wire and cease to supply current to the defective installation until the defects have been corrected.
      3.   When any portion or all of the wiring in or on any building premises is ordered changed for any reason, the electrical inspector shall leave attached to the main switch or service equipment a tag or label showing the date of the order, and a memorandum of the correction to be made, and the signature of the authority making the order.
   B.   New Construction:
      1.   Request For Inspection: It shall be the duty of the electrical contractor and any others holding permits to do electrical work to notify the Office of the Electrical Inspector as soon as any electrical work is ready for inspection.
      2.   Inspections Required:
         a.   When any electrical work is done for which a building permit is required, then the work shall be inspected by the electrical inspector.
         b.   There shall be a rough in and final inspection required and a temporary service inspection if needed. If such work is not done in such a manner and with such materials as required by this chapter, the inspector shall require the work to be redone to comply with this chapter. If the defective work is not altered to comply, then the electrical inspector may order the electric utility company to disconnect electrical service to the premises in which such defective work is situated.
      3.   Time For Inspection: The electrical inspector shall, in all cases, inspect any and all new electrical wiring within twenty four (24) hours after receipt of notice from the permit holder that the work is complete and ready for inspection, the period not to include Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
      4.   Fees: In order to secure an electrical certificate of approval, any licensed electrical contractor shall pay the inspection fee required by section 11-1-8 of this title.
   C.   Notice Of Rejection: When a job has been rejected by the Office of the Electrical Inspector or electrical work condemned by the electrical inspector, the owner of the premises on which the inspection work is done, or the electrical contractor doing the electrical work, or both, shall be notified, specifically setting out what is required to place the electrical portion of the premises in condition for approval by the electrical inspector.
   D.   Alteration After Inspection: It shall be unlawful for any person to alter any electric work after its final inspection without obtaining a permit, the same as required for original installation, repair or alteration. (Ord. 2017-265, 4-17-2017, eff. 5-1-2017)
