(a) Any employee who accumulates 1,120 hours or more of sick leave as of November 1 of each calendar year, may, at his or her option, voluntarily reduce his or her accumulated sick leave balance by 160 hours and receive thereafter payment equal to forty hours pay at his or her current hourly rate. Such conversion may occur only once each calendar year, provided that a request for such conversion is submitted to the City by November 1.
(b) Any employee who does not use any sick leave in the calendar year, other than sick leave that is utilized for an approved condition under the FMLA, in the calendar year, may at the beginning of the following calendar year, reduce his or her accumulated sick time by ten percent. This conversion may occur once per year, and the request must be received within the month of January, to be paid in February. The employee is to be compensated one hour pay for each hour, reduced at the previous year's rate.
