1442.03 COMPLIANCE REQUIRED; DISCONTINUANCE OF VIOLATIONS.
   (a)   No person, firm or corporation, whether as owner, lessee, sublessee or occupant, shall erect, construct, enlarge, structurally alter, structurally repair, convert, demolish, occupy, equip or maintain any building in this jurisdiction, or cause or permit the same to be done contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this Building Code or any order issued by the Building Inspector hereunder.
   (b)   Whenever the Building Inspector is satisfied that a building, or any work in connection therewith, or the erection, construction, alteration, repair, improvement, removal, conversion, demolition, use, occupancy, equipping or maintenance thereof, which is regulated hereby, is in violation or contrary to a detailed statement of a plan submitted and approved thereunder, or of a permit or certificate issued thereunder, he or she may serve a written notice or order upon the person responsible therefor, directing immediate discontinuance of such illegal action or the remedying of the condition that is in violation or contrary to the provisions and requirements of this Building Code.
   (c)   Whenever, by reason of the existence of defective, reckless, careless or other illegal work or other activity in violation or contrary to this Building Code, the Building Inspector determines that the continuance of a building operation is contrary to public welfare and safety, or when a required permit has not been obtained, the Building Inspector shall order or cause to be ordered, either orally or in writing, all further work to be stopped and shall require suspension of work until the condition or violation has been remedied.
   (d)   Whenever any building is being used or occupied contrary to the provisions of this Building Code, the Building Inspector shall order such use or occupancy discontinued and the building, or portion thereof, vacated, by notice served on any person causing the use or occupancy to be continued. Such person shall discontinue the use or occupancy within ten days after receipt of such notice or make the building comply with the provisions of this Building Code, provided, however, that if, in the event the building is determined to be an unsafe or dangerous building, as defined in this Building Code, the Building Inspector may invoke the provisions of Chapter 1460.
