1240.08 INTERPRETATION OF CERTAIN WORDS.
   For purposes of this Zoning Code, certain words and terms shall be interpreted as follows:
   (a)   The word "person" includes a firm, association, organization, partnership, trust, company or corporation, as well as an individual.
   (b)   The present tense includes the future tense, the singular number includes the plural number, and the plural number includes the singular number.
   (c)   The word "shall" means a mandatory requirement, the word "may" indicates a permissive requirement and the word "should" is a preferred requirement.
   (d)   The words "used" and "occupied" include the phrase "intended, designed and/or arranged to be used or occupied."
   (e)   The word "lot" includes the words "plot" and "parcel."
   (f)   The words "such as" and "including" include the words "but not limited to".
   (g)   The word "use" includes the words "object," "activity" and "structure."
   (h)   The particular controls the general.
   (i)   In the case of any difference in meaning or implication between the text and any caption or illustration, the text shall control.
   (j)   Webster's New International Dictionary, Third Edition, shall be used for words not defined by this Zoning Code.
