(a) In addition to all other compensation, salaries and/or wages now earned or to be earned in the future by each full-time salaried police officer of the City who shall be qualified by the underwriting insurance company, such police officer shall be entitled to liability insurance without cost as provided for herein.
(b) The Auditor and the Safety-Service Director of the City are hereby authorized and directed to obtain an insurance contract covering the liability insurance expense of each police officer who shall be qualified for coverage as specified in subsection (a) hereof.
(c) The Auditor and the Safety-Service Director are hereby authorized and directed to select the liability insurance which best meets the needs of the police officers as specified in subsections (a) and (b) hereof while affording the least cost to the City. The Auditor is also authorized and directed to pay for the liability insurance coverage provided for herein out of the Contingency Fund for such purpose.
