(a) Any emergency proclaimed in accordance with the provisions of this chapter shall terminate either after passage of a period of seventy-two hours following its inception or upon the issuance of a proclamation by the Mayor advising that an emergency is no longer deemed to exist, whichever occurs first.
(b) However, such emergency may be extended for such additional period of time as may be determined necessary by the Mayor.
