§ 678.05 EXAMINATION OF CASES OF SUPPOSED TRUANCY; NOTICE TO PARENT OR GUARDIAN.
On the request of the Superintendent of Schools or the Board of Education or when it otherwise comes to their notice, police personnel of the village may examine into any case of supposed truancy within the village, and warn the child, if found truant, and his or her parent, guardian, or other person in charge of him or her, in writing, of the legal consequences of truancy if persisted in. When any child of compulsory school age, in violation of law, is not attending school, the police shall notify the parent, guardian or other person in charge of the child of the fact, and require the parent, guardian or other person to cause the child to attend school forthwith; and the parent, guardian, or other person in charge of the child shall cause the child’s attendance at school. Upon the failure of the parent, guardian, or other person in charge of the child to do so, the police, on behalf of the village, shall make complaint against the parent, guardian or other person in charge of the child in any court of competent jurisdiction.
