§ 618.20 MAXIMUM NUMBER OF DOGS AND CATS PERMITTED; PRIOR ACQUISITION NOT AFFECTED.
   (a)   No person shall, after the effective date of this section, be permitted to keep more than three dogs over three months of age at one premises within the village.
   (b)   No person, after the effective date of this section, shall be permitted to keep more than three cats over three months of age at one premises within the village.
   (c)   However, any person keeping more than three of such animals at one premises at the time of the effective date of this section shall be permitted to continue to keep such animals in excess of three dogs or three cats at the premises. Whenever any of such animals dies, is sold or is given away, such person shall not be permitted to replace such animal at the premises if such replacement would bring the total number of dogs to more than three at one premises, or number of cats to more than three at one premises.
   (d)   The limitation of three dogs and three cats per premises applies regardless of which person or persons at each premises owns the animals.
   (e)   Whoever violates or fails to comply with this section is guilty of a misdemeanor of the third degree. A separate offense shall be deemed committed each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues. The penalty shall be as provided in Chapter 698.
