(a) Interpretations of terms and words. For the purposes of this Code, certain terms and words are defined and are used in this Code in that defined context. For the purpose of this Planning and Zoning Code, certain terms and words used herein shall be interpreted as follows:
(1) Any words not herein defined shall be construed as defined in normal dictionary usage.
(2) The word
SHALL is a mandatory requirement, the word MAY is a permissive requirement, and the word SHOULD is a preferred requirement.
(3) The word
LOT includes the words PLOT or PARCEL.
(4) The words
USED and OCCUPIED include the words INTENDED, DESIGNED or ARRANGED to be used or occupied.
(5) The word
PERSON includes a firm, association, organization, partnership, trust, company or corporation, as well as an individual.
(6) The present tense includes the future tense, the singular number includes the plural, and the plural number includes the singular.
(7) Whenever a number of days are specified, days shall mean calendar days unless specifically noted otherwise.
(8) Whenever a proposed use fits within a specific definition but also within a more general definition, the more specific definition shall control.
(b) Definitions of general terms. For the purpose of this Zoning Code, certain words used herein are defined and whenever used in this Zoning Code shall have the meaning indicated in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning. The following are general terms of reference:
(1) BOARD or BZA. The Board of Zoning Appeals of Lockland, Ohio.
(2) CODE. Unless otherwise referring to another portion of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Lockland, Ohio, CODE means only Part Twelve, Title Six of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Lockland that regulates village zoning.
(3) CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. The individual designated to administer and enforce the Zoning Code of the Village of Lockland, Ohio per Chapter 1244.
(4) VILLAGE. The Village of Lockland, Ohio.
(5) COMMISSION. The Planning Commission of Lockland, Ohio.
(6) COUNCIL. The Village Council of Lockland, Ohio.
(7) DISTRICT. A part of the village wherein regulations of this Zoning Code are uniform as classified by the provisions of Chapter 1248.
(8) PD. A Planned Development as provided for in Chapter 1260 of this Code.
(9) EFFECTIVE DATE OF ADOPTION. The date upon which this Zoning Code was passed by Council.
(10) MUNICIPALITY. The Village of Lockland, Ohio.
(11) PUBLIC NOTICE. Advance notice of a hearing or proceeding as prescribed in this Zoning Code pursuant to Chapter 1280.
(12) VILLAGE. The Village of Lockland, Ohio.
(13) ZONING MAP. The "Zoning District Map" of the Village of Lockland, Ohio.
