APPROVED SYMBOL. A Maltese Cross measuring eight inches horizontally and eight inches vertically. The sign background shall be reflective white in color. The Maltese Cross and contents shall be reflective red in color with a stroke width of one-half inch. Where a sign is directly applied to a door or sidelight, it may be a permanent non-fading sticker or decal. Signs not directly applied to doors or sidelights shall be of sturdy, non-fading, weather resistant material. See the figures attached to Ordinance 2014-50.
BOWSTRING TRUSS. A type of construction (wood/steel) where to top chord is curved in the shape of a bow (often circular or parabolic in shape) and a straight or cambered bottom chord which ties together the two ends of the bow.
LIGHRWEIGHT/LIGHT-FRAME TRUSS- TYPE CONSTRUCTION. A type of construction whose primary structural elements are formed by a system of repetitive wood or light gauge steel framing members. The most common examples of "light-frame truss-type construction" includes, but is not limited to: wood roof or floor trusses joined together with metal connector plates, engineered lumber roof or floor I-beams, and light gauge steel channel truss systems.
TRUSS CONSTRUCTION. For the purposes of this rule, truss-type construction shall mean a fabricated structure of wood or steel, made up of a series of members connected at their ends to form a series of triangles to span a distance greater than would be possible with any of the individual members on their own. The most common examples of truss-type construction includes, are not limited to: bar joist trusses or open web steel joist trusses consisting, in the standard form, of parallel chords and a triangulated web system, proportioned to span between bearing points.
