Open structures, such as porches, balconies, platforms, carports, covered patios and similar architectural projections, shall be considered a part of the building to which attached and shall not project into the required minimum front, side or rear yard. Ordinary projections of sills, belt courses, roof eaves, cornices and similar structural and ornamental features may extend to a distance not to exceed eighteen inches into a required yard.
