(1) Generally.
(a) It is resolved that a policy for naming city parks be adopted.
(b) The criteria for naming new parks is as follows.
(2) New parks.
(a) Naming. The Park Board will name a new park following preliminary plat approval when a park area is indicated on the plat.
(b) Criteria for naming parks.
1. Significant or unique characteristic of the park.
2. Historical features relating to the parcel.
3. According to name of adjacent housing development(s).
4. According to location or street name.
5. Names of a community service organization.
6. Names that represent quality of life in Lino Lakes.
7. Environmental names which may represent the name of animals or trees in the area.
(c) Circumstances considered in naming. Only under significant circumstances will consideration be given to naming parks after individuals and/or organized groups, associations or businesses. To be considered, the individual, group, association or business, must have made a significant and exceptional contribution to the park involved or the community as a whole. The contributions should be for recreational purposes.
(d) Plaques. In addition, recognition plaques, memorial plaques or dedications may be placed throughout the park system at the discretion of the Public Services Director with the recommendation of the Park Board.
(3) Existing parks.
All existing parks will be officially named as to what they have been regularly referred to.

(d) Renaming parks.
1. Procedure. If a group of individuals are interested in renaming their neighborhood park, the following procedure will be required.
a. Obtain at least 50% of signatures from at least one adult homeowner from each residence within the designated service area as determined by the Public Services Director (generally one-half mile radius);
b. The suggested new name and the rationale for the changing must appear in the petition. The petition will be submitted to the Park Board for consideration.
c. The Park Board will make the recommendation (if any) to the City Council for final approval.

a. Significant or unique characteristic of the park.
b. Historical features relating to parcel.
c. According to name of adjacent housing developement(s).
d. According to location or street name.
e. Names of a community service organization.
f. Names that represent quality of life in Lino Lakes.
g. Environmental names which may represent the name of animals or trees in the area.
