§ 33.09 BENEVOLENT FUND.
   (A)   There is hereby created a fund to be known as the benevolent fund for the police department of the village.
   (B)   This fund shall be used for the following purposes:
      (1)   Rendering aid to a police officer or the officer's immediate family in case of death, sickness or injury of such officer by acts in the line of duty.
      (2)   Improvement of the public image of the police department.
      (3)   Contributions by the police department to charitable or community sponsored projects.
      (4)   Special projects that benefit the police department.
   (C)   The police department is hereby authorized to conduct dances and other fundraising projects, the proceeds of which shall be deposited in this fund.
   (D)   It shall be the duty of the police department to recommend to the village board the expenditures to be made out of this fund. For anyone to be eligible to receive benefits from this fund, the majority of the police department must vote in favor of the disbursement.
   (E)   The village treasurer is appointed treasurer of the fund and the depositories and the making of disbursements of this fund shall be ordered in every respect as a general village fund, under the same procedures as a general village fund, except, however, that any disbursements shall not be made without the prior consent of the majority of the police department.
