(A) It shall be the duty of the commissioners to plan and undertake various projects listed in division (B) of this section or as specifically assigned to them by the village board related to the environment and beautification of the environment of the village and provide educational opportunities for village residents to learn more about the environment and natural beauty of our area.
(B) The environmental commission shall have the following specific duties and responsibilities:
(1) Serve in a citizens' advisory capacity to the village president and board of trustees.
(2) Plan and run the village's annual Earth Day/Arbor Day Celebration and village cleanup.
(3) Plan programs to promote the planting of the village flower, the daffodil, throughout the village and facilitate the sale of daffodil bulbs to village residents.
(4) Plan programs to promote the planting of the linden tree throughout the village and facilitate the sale of linden trees to village residents.
(5) Seek community volunteers to assist this commission in performing its duties and responsibilities.
(6) Develop and deliver to the village board an annual plan no later than March 1 of each year outlining fundraising recommendations. The village board would own direction and implementation of any aspects of the plan. The plan should include ideas to encourage citizens, organizations and companies to donate funds to the environmental commission. The commission shall participate in activities associated with the implementation of the plan.
