§ 90.01 DEFINITIONS.
For the purpose of this chapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning:
   ANIMAL. A dog, cat or any one of the lower animals, as distinguished from man.
   AT LARGE. Any animal when it is off the property of its owner and not on a leash. An animal within the automobile of the owner shall be deemed on the owner's premises. Any reptile shall be deemed at large when it is not contained within an escape proof cage or box or when it is off the property of its owner, whether or not so contained.
   CONTROL. An animal is under control if it is controlled by a leash no longer than 10 feet in length.
   DANGEROUS ANIMALS or REPTILES. Any which are ferae naturae in the eyes of the law.
   DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. The Illinois department of agriculture.
   INOCULATION AGAINST RABIES. The injection, subcutaneously or otherwise, as approved by the department of agriculture, of canine antirabic vaccine approved by the department.
   OWNER. Any person having a right of property in an animal or reptile, who keeps or harbors an animal or reptile, who has an animal or reptile in his care or who acts as its custodian, or who knowingly permits an animal or reptile to remain on or about any premises occupied by him.
   REPTILE. Includes all members of the reptilia class of air breathing vertebrates including the alligator and crocodile, lizard, snake or turtle.
